By kind permission of the Duchy of Cornwall, our AGM will again be at 10 Buckingham Gate, in the Council Chambers from 2.00pm on Friday 17th May 2019.
Annual General Meeting: 2.00pm
Trinity sherry will be served at the Annual General Meeting, again held by kind permission of the Secretary and Keeper of Records at the Duchy of Cornwall.
This will include Society Membership, Finances, re-publications and plans for the coming year, plus a reprise of recent events such as the Northern trip to the Middleton, and Captain Farquhar’s address at the Annual Dinner.
3.00 – 3.30 pm
For the first time in many years, perhaps ever, London will see a live performance of songs from “Jorrocks – The Musical”. This highly original musical play in Two Acts was written by David Heneker in 1968, and a score was recently provided to the Society. The programme of songs can be expanded further if we can find a mezzo-soprano from the membership to take Mrs Jorrocks “A harridan. Fat and ambitious.” and the baritone James Pigg, “A hunter from the North, overfond of drink and women.” We also propose to have other well known hunting songs from the Fells. Weather permitting, we will hold the performances on the roof terrace of the Duchy of Cornwall.
After the singing, the Society will be given its Summer Lecture – this year on the subject of the artist John Leech. This is further to the exhibition of his works and connection with Surtees, that is being put on by the British Sporting Art Trust in Northamptonshire.
3.30 – 4.00pm
A sumptuous English cream tea back in the Council Room – scones, jam and clotted cream before dispersing. After the AGM it’s become traditional for many country members to re-convene a bit later to have dinner together in London. Please let us know if you would like to join that.
